This week, we took the time to learn about Financial Literacy. Thanks to the Toronto Star and TD Canada Trust, we were given a newspaper, which outlines:
Earning- Commission, Salary, Fee-per-service and Hourly Wages.
Spending – Needs vs. Wants, Fixed and variable expenses and using a budget.
Saving – Saving for important items, Christmas and home repairs.
How to Pay Yourself First- Setting a goal, Personal Loan, Emergency Fund, Compound Interest, Mortgages etc.
Benefits and Risks of Credit Cards- Cost of Credit Cards, Credit, Grace Period, Cash Advances.
Types of Bank Accounts and Investing – Chequing Account, Savings Account, Investing, Debit Cards, Credit and Debit Fraud.
I encourage you to talk with your child about financial literacy, so they can begin to understand and have a positive attitude toward saving and budgeting their money for the future.
Grade 7 students are learning about Interactions in the Environment. Some key learning involves the study of various ecosystems, food chains/webs, and positive and negative interactions humans have on the environment.
Attached is the project outline to create a model ecosystem Model Ecosystem Project-1rccz4d, which is due on December 21st, 2017.
Students have been learning to create algebraic expressions, extend a T-Chart and graph their findings in a math problem. After working in pairs, students did a gallery walk, and used to Learning Goal and Success Criteria to give meaningful feedback to the other groups. Next, students will review the feedback their own group was given and use it to improve on their independent assignment this week.
The Grade 7s have a History test on New France this Thursday, November 16th. They were to already have begun reviewing their notes. Attached is a copy of the review for the test. They will have an 80 minute class period on Wednesday, to study with a partner and finish any study notes.

November 16th – Colour House Spirit Day
Our class is focusing on Patterning and Algebra this month.
Grade 7s are learning to create an algebraic expression, solve using variables, and create a T-table and graph from their expression.
Grade 6s are focusing on creating and extending patterns, input and output machines, as well as beginning to use variables and solve for an unknown.
