So far, I have experienced lots of enjoyment while reading this book. Every page is increasingly better than the last and the writing style and well-described feelings of the characters keep the reader strongly engaged. I’m only a third of the way through this book and it is already giving off strong gothic vibes. An important moment in this book where Victor creates his monster, the author, Mary Shelley, describes the atmosphere being dark and stormy outside. Also, when the monster is created he’s described as a huge proportionate monster with yellow skin and black lips, just a totally crazy creation by a scientist who was left alone with his studies. This reminds me of an article I read about a scientist who accidentally discovered the gas Sarin. While alone in his studies this scientist discovered this gas and it was used in times of war, this gas is now actually considered a weapon of mass destruction. I found Frankenstein’s creation and the other scientists discovery connected because in one case one of the scientists discovered something that was used to injure/kill people and Victor created something that could have easily been used for the same thing. Because of the fact that I’ve never read Frankenstein and that I don’t really know anything about the plot, I’m really curious to read the rest of the book. So many cool and interesting things have already happened in the book and there is still a lot more to read so I’m really excited to see the development of characters such as Victor and Elizabeth, but mainly the monster.
