Statement on Chief Coroner’s Investigation
Grand Erie continues to support Truth and Reconciliation and is sensitive to the recent news that Ontario’s Chief Coroner’s office is investigating the 2020 discovery of a child’s remains at an unmarked grave in the area that was once a part of the grounds of the former residential school in Brantford. We support this work, and the work of the Survivors’ Secretariat to discover, document and share the truth about what happened at the Mohawk Institute during its 136 years of operation.
Grand Erie extends its condolences to individuals and communities who have been impacted and continue to be impacted by the legacy of Canada’s residential schools and the tragedies that took place in them.
