“We know that COVID-19 has had a direct impact on the well-being of our youth and our families, including how we are coping with continued stress, uncertainty and boredom,” explains Christine Bibby, Safe and Inclusive Schools Lead with Grand Erie, part of the team responsible for bringing the event to fruition. “It’s important that we consider the context of how the current pandemic continues to impact our young people as it relates to patterns of substance use. Becoming informed helps prepare us to have these important conversations. We have to approach talking about youth substance use with an open mind, so that we can truly engage youth in meaningful discussion, which also includes reflecting on our own habits and patterns of substance use.”
Dr. Bruno, author of The Drug Paradox, will be leading the session for parents, addressing the basics of youth substance use, patterns of use, classifying drug effects, the continuum of use, as well as how we can talk with youth about substance use. The presentation is followed by a question-and-answer session.
The virtual event takes place February 24, from 6:30 – 8 p.m. Click here to register.
