n Saturday, March 26, at 8:30 p.m., Grand Erie will join millions of people across the globe in switching off the lights in our schools, offices and homes for one hour as part of Earth Hour, the largest grassroots movement for the environment. By taking part in this global “lights out” event, we will be acknowledging our commitment to #Connect2Earth this Earth Hour.
Earth Hour began as a single-city initiative in Sydney, Australia, back in 2007 and has since grown into a global movement with hundreds of millions of people from more than 7,000 cities and towns in more than 188 countries and territories. Today, Earth Hour aims to increase awareness and spark global conversations on protecting nature, tackling the climate crisis, and working together to shape a brighter future for everyone.
Schools in Grand Erie are encouraged to set an example for their communities and lead into Earth Hour on Friday, March 25, by engaging in various activities including:
Facility Services staff will turn off all non-essential lights in our schools and board sites at 8.30 p.m. to mark Earth Hour. In addition, we would like to encourage everyone to participate by turning off your lights at home during the event. Share the moment with family and friends, and consider how you can reduce your ecological footprint with commitments that benefit the planet beyond the hour.
