In Auto body at Tollgate you will acquire job-specific skills to repair dents in body panels, fenders and skirting, file, sand grind and spray paint. You will also explore shrinking or stretching metal panels with heat treatment and welding breaks in body panels or structures. An understanding how to test for and correct faulty frame alignment, and install trim and body parts will also be taught.
Students will acquire sound theoretical knowledge and practical applications to complement on-the-job experience of this trade and develop craftsmanship, problem-solving skills, personal pride, desirable work attitudes and a keen sense of responsibility in public and personal safety.
In Auto body students are offered a selection of assignments collected from members of the community that wish to have their Auto Body needs met by our highly capable community.
Students in Auto body at Tollgate will work with prospective customers one-on-one to develop material list, possible time frames and pricing framework. Constant communication with the student’s client is encouraged to ensure a high quality finished product as well as satisfied customer.
Students develop technical knowledge and skills as they study, test, service, and repair engine, electrical, suspension, brake, and steering systems on vehicles, aircraft, and/or watercraft. Students will develop communication and teamwork skills through practical tasks, using a variety of tools and equipment. Students will develop an awareness of environmental and societal issues related to transportation, and will learn about apprenticeship and college programs leading to careers in the transportation industry.
