Paris District High School Track Fundraiser

Current Status:

Paris District High School (PDHS) is currently home to approximately 900 Grand Erie students and the current track, which has served the student population well over its useful life, is beginning to lose its functionality and the school and community are seeking an upgrade. The list of inadequacies/restrictions that the current track presents are as follows:

• The current format of the track has only 4 lanes. The current restriction of having only four lanes also limits the range of events that can take place.. 
• The current state of jumping pits and runways, and throwing space (shot put, discus) are in poor shape, and need upgrading 
• The current dirt/stone track is not an ideal surface for a secondary school track.  The track requires constant maintenance, which becomes especially challenging after rainfall. Footprints tend to solidify into the surface when it has been walked on while wet, exacerbating the issue. 
• With the growing community, an expanding number of community members are utilizing the track for walking. The development of a new track would represent a remarkable opportunity to enhance the prominence of PDHS. The goal is to establish the school as a community hub, and the implementation of a modern facility would help maintain PDHS’ as a desired recreational location for the town.
• The track is immensely important to the staff and students of PDHS.  It is used for physical education classes, fitness classes, Relay for Life, extra-curricular activities, and community use.  The current state and format of the track does not reflect the true potential of the academic and recreational use. 

The Concept:

Upgrading the current 4-lane track to a 6-lane synthetic track which would conform to International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF) and the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) Dimensions and lining.
 

Based on the initial concept above, an estimate of $3,000,000 has been established for the project. This includes:

Fundraising Plan

A successful $2,000,000 fundraising campaign, in addition to a $1,000,000 contribution from Grand Erie would result in a $3,000,000 project budget, enough to construct the amenities mentioned in the concept section above. A target construction commencement date of July 1, 2024 could be achieved if the targets in the fundraising plan are met.
