The Library Learning Commons (LLC) is a safe and inclusive environment in a bright open space that invites student inquiry, exploration, creativity and collaboration. Our goal is to encourage student engagement and improve student achievement using a variety of technologies in our green room, maker space, lounge, or teaming area. The LLC cultivates a community of learners and empowers them to become life-long learners.
Located off the alumni hall, the LLC hosts numerous events and workshops throughout the year from escape rooms to art workshops and trivia contests. As part of our efforts to support student wellness the LLC offers Mindful Mornings on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Join us for guided relaxation and mindful exercises to start the day off right.
Lunch hour provides opportunities for students to participate in some of PDHS’ clubs that run out of the library such as AV/Robotics, IDEA (Inclusivity, Diversity, and Equity Association), book club and our knitting club which has created projects for the Stedman Hospice and local Neo-natal units.
All students are welcome in our LLC to complete homework, do research, work on group projects, browse our latest book titles or just take time to relax and curl up with a good book in a comfy chair overlooking the courtyard gardens.
The LLC is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and staffed by Ms. M. Barisky, our Teacher-Librarian, and Mrs. J. Cornell our Library Technician. We are available to help students with research, projects and can recommend any one of thousands of books, magazines or online resources to help with learning or for pleasure reading. We also offer the use of games, puzzles and the purchase of school supplies.
The LLC is pleased to welcome student volunteers who wish to assist with our many student activities and accumulate their community hours. We are also happy to accept requests for books or resources to add to our ever-growing collection. Feel free to contact library staff either in person or via email.
