Want to Learn an International Language? 

The following international language classes are being offered in the 2024-25 school year:
 

Arabic	Hindi	Polish	Telugu
Bangla/Bengali	Malayalam	Punjabi	Urdu
Gujarati	Mandarin	Tamil

 

Students must be currently attending a public or private  school to enroll in either of the secondary or elementary classes of the Languages below. 

Once students submit a registration form to the GELA secretary, please attend on the following scheduled day of the class. 

The registration process will be completed by Grand Erie Learning Alternatives. GELA will inform your children's teachers of their expected attendance once the registration is received.

 

In-person registration is on Saturday, September 13 from 9:15 to 11:30 a.m. at 
Walter Gretzky Elementary School, 365 Blackburn Drive, Brantford, 
Please use the main entrance for registration. 

 

 Classes

JK - Grade 8

• OPEN TO: Grades JK to Grade 8 elementary students currently registered in a public or private school.
• CLASSES BEGIN: Saturday, Sept. 20, 2025.
• TIME: Saturday mornings - 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

• TIME: Monday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Punjabi Secondary Credit Class - Grades 9 to 12

• OPEN TO: Grades 9 to 12
• DETAILS: Students will earn a secondary school credit
• CLASSES BEGIN: Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024.
• TIME: Saturday mornings: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

 International Languages Information

Program Information

• Offers children the opportunity to develop and/or maintain the ability to speak, listen, read and write a new language, or in the language of their heritage.
• Enhances students’ connection with their heritage.
• Improves communication skills in their language of choice.
• Strengthens cognitive development through the knowledge of an additional language.
• Provides opportunities to learn and experience another culture.
• Languages currently offered: Arabic, Bangla/Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Malayalam, Mandarin, Polsh, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.
   

Important Notes

• Classes run with a minimum of 15 students registered for a particular language. 
• Students with all levels of language proficiency are welcome.
• Students need to be committed to learning and improving their skills. Good attitude, behaviour and consistent engagement are expected of every student.
