Mathematics

The primary goal for our Mathematics department is to promote the development of fundamental math skills, mathematical literacy and problem solving skills in students. In order to achieve this, our teachers provide instruction to lead students through lesson, investigations and inquiries to develop their mathematical knowledge.

At H.S.S., we are dedicated to the success of students. We offer courses with a wide range of choices that address all levels of ability. Access to mathematical technology allows our students to become engaged in interactive learning opportunities and become more confident as mathematics learners. In grade 9, students at the academic and applied level write the EQAO mathematics test.

Our grade 9 teachers work with our students throughout the entire semester to prepare them for the test. The test is based on the skills learned throughout the grade 9 year. Students in first-semester math courses take the test in January and students in second-semester take the test in June.
