J. L. Mitchener is the Home of the Mavericks! We have a beautiful building and property, located in the small town of Cayuga. Built in 1957, J. L. Mitchener became the primary public elementary school in the community. The school is named in memory of a former Public School Inspector, the late James L. Mitchener, who was known and respected throughout the County of Haldimand for his leadership and educational progress.
Today, J. L. Mitchener School is home to 270 students. We have three Full Day Early Learning Kindergarten classes, a class for students with Autism, home to the Haldimand Enrichment Center, and a Junior Technology Class. Our school is rich in history and spirit, and we are proud to teach students from Kindergarten to Grade 8. We believe that all of our students are capable of great success and achievement and support them to ensure they reach their full potential!
