Student Council

Listen for the announcements during the month of September to join our Student Council.  Be sure to Follow Us on IG @mpssbluedevils

Anime Club

The anime club is a place where like minded people get together to talk about all things Anime. We bring our own characters, learn to draw characters, watch anime and enjoy each other's company. We meet every Friday at lunch in room 1060. We also have a year end party with treats, music and more. Come and join the fun!

Book Club

If you like reading and good conversation, then the MPSS Book Club is for you! At the beginning of the school year, we choose monthly themes (like fantasy, mystery, and dystopian) and then select books based on the month’s theme. Book Club meets twice a month at lunch in the library, where we share what we are reading and talk about new book releases.

Listen for announcements and join us!

Crime Stoppers

The MPSS Crime Stoppers Club is designed to maintain the safety of both the school and community by creating an awareness of the Canadian Crime Stoppers Association. The students who join this club realize the importance of taking action within their school and community in order to make them the best that they can be.

This club is open to all students and has the added benefit of providing members with some of the volunteer hours that they require to earn their OSSDs through participation in events such as our weekly meetings, our community breakfasts, the OPPs Lock it or Lose it campaign, and the Challenge a Cop Badminton Classic. Members are also able to apply for one of two bursaries in their graduating year that are exclusive to the Crime Stoppers members of Haldimand, Norfolk, and Tillsonburg valued at $1000 each.

Members have the opportunity to work closely with the school's OPP resource officer and get firsthand information about policing and law enforcement. Students who are considering any form of law enforcement can take advantage of our officer's experience to plan their pathways throughout secondary school to ensure that they have the courses that will help them to secure a future in policing.

We generally meet every other Thursday throughout the school year.

Eco Club

Eco Club members attend regular meetings to plan and organize environmental initiatives that will reduce the school's ecological footprint. We focus on waste minimization and reducing energy consumption. The club's mandate has many curriculum links and teaches students stewardship and responsibility within a fun and inclusive environment. All students are welcome and encouraged to participate in this organization to promote sustainable living.

McKinnon Park Secondary School is a Certified ECOschool

Interact Club

The Interact Club is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Caledonia. It is for students who want to join together to tackle the issues that they care most about in their local community, nationally and globally by participating in hands on service projects. We do projects like: 30 Hour Famine, Sleep Over for Syria to help Syrian refugees, the Water Festival to teach kids about water conservation, and fundraising for a variety of charities. With the interact club you can build your community service hours, your service portfolio for applications to schools, jobs and scholarships, but most importantly it is fun and you can help others. We meet every Tuesday at lunch.

OSAID

Ontario Students Against Impaired Driving (OSAID) is a youth driven organization that addresses an issue critical to us all, safety on our roads, while developing future leaders who will make lasting contributions. Impaired driving (including the use of cell phones) is the largest killer of teens and every one of those deaths is avoidable. Please help us bring awareness to this important issue!

“Remember - Friends Don’t Let Friends Drink & Drive – Arrive Alive!”

OSAID is involved in various activities and events throughout the school year.

  • MADD Presentation
  • Project Red Ribbon
  • Fundraising and public announcements

Come check us out and bring a friend! All are welcome!

Reach for the Top

Four students from MPSS compete against four students from another school using buzzers to answer trivia questions on a variety of topics. Our Junior Team is made up of grade 9 and 10 students and our Senior Team is made up of grade 11 and 12 students.

Recreational Badminton

Recreational Badminton runs on most Fridays from 3:00pm- 4:30 pm throughout the school year. This club allows students of all skill levels to play the sport recreationally with their friends or others who are there. This club provides the perfect social experience for someone who is new to the school and is a great way to meet other students and extend one's circle of friends.

The goal of the club is to provide students with the opportunity to get some exercise while they develop their badminton skills in a very informal and unintimidating way. Coaching is available upon request, as are rule explanations and clarifications.

Gym clothes and proper gym shoes are required, as are safety goggles. The safety goggles and racquets are provided, but students are encouraged to bring their own equipment if they have it.

safeTALK

safeTALK is alertness training that prepares anyone over the age of 15, regardless of prior experience or training, to become a suicide-alert helper. Most people with thoughts of suicide don’t truly want to die, but are struggling with the pain in their lives. Through their words and actions, they invite help to stay alive. safeTALK-trained helpers can recognize these invitations and take action by connecting them with life-saving intervention resources, such as caregivers trained in ASIST.

Since its development in 2006, safeTALK has been used in over 20 countries around the world, and more than 200 selective video vignettes have been produced to tailor the program’s audio-visual component for diverse audiences. safeTALK-trained helpers are an important part of suicide-safer communities, working alongside intervention resources to identify and avert suicide risks. safeTALK helps expand the reach of suicide intervention skills in communities around the world.
