A way for school boards to address the issues of declining enrolment and aging facilities is by conducting accommodation reviews. From this process, decisions can be made to build new schools, amalgamate or renovate existing schools, or close schools.
Public consultation and input are important parts of the accommodation review process. School communities, the public, and select board members and trustees participate in the process of analyzing the accumulated research and assist with making follow-up decisions. All included parties are notified well in advance if a review is taking place in their area. As well, community members will have the opportunity to attend public meetings to hear deliberations and have chances to share their ideas with the Board of Trustees.
Moving forward, Grand Erie's primary goal is to continue serving students with excellent opportunities and education. The accommodation review process ensures that funding is spent on enriching educational opportunities for students, giving them the very best school experiences.
