What is a Boundary Review?

A Boundary Review is a public process to change school attendance areas (boundaries). The Board will consider boundary changes when:
- A new school opens
- Grades or programs change
- Too many students are in a school
- Too few students are in a school
A Boundary Review does not have a fixed schedule. Changes that are approved will take place at the start of the school year (September). Generally, a boundary change must be approved before the end of February for changes in the next school year.
School boundaries also change when schools close. The Board uses a more formal process, called a Pupil Accommodation Review when closing a school. It is important to note that school closures cannot be considered under a Boundary Review.
A Boundary Review is led by a Boundary Review Special Ad Hoc Committee (BRSAC). The BRSAC will advise and provide recommendations that will inform the final decision made by the Board of Trustees on school attendance area (boundary) changes within the review area.
The BRSAC will be composed of:
- Superintendent of Education responsible for the identified school(s) (chair)
- Planning Supervisor
- Planning Officer
- Principal of the identified school(s)
- Up to two School Council Representatives of the identified schools
- Superintendent of Business

Public Meetings and Providing Your Input
When the Board makes decisions about student accommodations, including school attendance areas we consult with community members. We encourage community engagement in the process to ensure your ideas and concerns are communicated to the Board. Public meeting notices and other updates will be shared on individual Boundary Review webpages, as well as GEDSB social media.
The Board of Trustees will make the final decision on boundary changes, considering all of the feedback gathered throughout the Review.
BRSAC meeting agendas and minutes
BRSAC meetings are not public and as such, non-members can attend by invitation only.
BRSAC meeting minutes will be posted as they are approved, therefore minutes are usually available online two-three weeks after a given meeting.
