The library is a safe, inclusive and welcoming space, developed to be a learning commons, where the emphasis is on students and staff learning together and working collaboratively to utilize new technology and explore the world beyond the walls of the school. Our goal is to assist students in becoming lifelong learners and information-literate individuals who recognize and explore their information needs, investigate and access relevant information, process information to solve problems and communicate effectively what they have learned.
The library is staffed by Ms. K. Johnson-McGregor, our Teacher-Librarian, and Mrs. S. Haddow, our Library Technician. We welcome student and staff volunteers, whose help is appreciated in the running of our very busy library! The LLC is open school days from 8:00 am to 4:00pm including lunchtime.
The Library Learning Commons is home to a number of events and club meetings throughout the year. We host the Acceptance for All Meetings on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month in the seminar room at lunchtime in support of GBLTQ youth and their allies. We also sponsor the White Pine Book Club, which runs from October to April every year.
Our physical and virtual collection of books, magazines and online databases and encyclopaedias is rich and diverse and reflects the changing needs of learners in the 21st century. Students or teachers with requests for books or resources to add to the collection should feel free to contact library staff either in person or via email. The library website may be reached by logging into Brightspace (D2L). If you are having difficulty accessing the BCI Library, please see Ms. Johnson-McGregor or email kate.johnson@granderie.ca
