COVID-19 Vaccines Now Available to Grand Erie Special Education Staff

The Grand Erie District School Board welcomes news today that Brant County Health Unit and the Haldimand Norfolk Health Unit will offer prioritized access to the vaccine for Grand Erie staff who provide direct support to students with special education learning needs starting on April 10.

Yesterday, the province announced that, starting next week, education workers who provide direct support to students with special education needs across the province will be eligible to register for COVID-19 vaccinations.

All Grand Erie educational assistants and elementary or secondary school special education class teachers and their prep teachers are eligible to register for a COVID-19 vaccination starting Saturday. Grand Erie is also working with the health units to verify if there are additional staff who may be eligible for this round of vaccinations.

Eligible staff can schedule a vaccine time slot with the health unit responsible for the school where they teach during the Spring Break between April 10-18 or on their break time when schools resume in-person learning after April 18. The vaccination is voluntary and offered at no cost to eligible staff.

Specific details will be provided to those staff eligible for the vaccine. At the time of registration, staff will need to complete a COVID-19 screening and consent form. Staff should remember to wear a mask and bring their Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) card to their appointment.
