Today (Wednesday, March 24), Grand Erie District School Board provided an update on this year’s Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) assessment for secondary school students.
EQAO is piloting a new online assessment for the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) this year where school boards have the option of choosing to participate. After careful consideration in assessing the equity of access for all learners, meeting the requirements for the test, and the impacts of the pandemic on student well-being, Grand Erie has made the decision not to participate.
Grand Erie recognizes this year’s tests have presented challenges which affect equitable learning opportunities, physical health and safety, mental health and well-being among students and school communities. As such, the board believes it is in the best interest of Grand Erie students not to create further undue pressure as they work towards the completion of the school year.
Grand Erie remains focused on ensuring students receive the quality education they deserve.
